Everything people ask before they book
Below are the questions we hear most often from homeowners and contractors across Louisville Metro. If you don't see your question here, our dispatch team can answer it directly, Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm.
Part 1
Pricing & booking
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Louisville?
Dumpster rental prices typically range from $350 to $750, depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the delivery location, and the rental duration. We can give you a firmer number once we know those details for your job.
What factors change the price the most?
Size is usually the biggest factor, followed by debris type — heavier material like concrete, dirt, or shingles is priced differently than mixed household debris. Delivery location within Jefferson County and how long you keep the container also factor in.
How do I book a dumpster?
Call our dispatch team or request a quote online. We'll confirm the size that fits your project, a delivery window, and where on your property the container should be placed.
How far in advance do I need to schedule?
For same-day service, especially in eastern Jefferson County near our Aiken Rd yard, call as early in the day as you can. Western and southern routes and larger jobs are more reliably scheduled a day or two out.
Do you require a deposit or long-term contract?
No long-term contract — you rent for the length of your project. Ask our dispatch team about current payment and deposit details when you book.
Part 2
Sizes & placement
What dumpster sizes do you offer?
Five sizes: 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yard. The 10-yard is about 14 feet long, and the largest, the 40-yard, is about 22 feet long by 7.5 feet wide by 8 feet high — sized for major demolition and commercial work.
How do I know which size I need?
It depends on the project. A garage cleanout or flooring tear-out usually fits a 15-yard. A medium renovation or roofing job often calls for a 20-yard. Multi-room remodels and estate cleanouts tend to need a 30-yard. Tell our dispatch team what you're clearing out and they'll recommend a size.
Where on my property should the dumpster go?
A driveway is the most common spot — it's flat, stable, and keeps the truck off the lawn. If you don't have driveway space, we can discuss placing it on a portion of your yard or, where permitted, the street.
Will a dumpster damage my driveway?
A properly placed container on a sound driveway is usually fine. For older or more delicate surfaces, especially around Old Louisville's historic properties, ask about placement options that reduce point-load on the pavement.
Can I fill the dumpster above the top rail?
No — debris needs to stay level with or below the top of the container so it can be hauled safely. Our driver can advise on load height at delivery.
Part 3
Permits & placement rules
Do I need a permit for a dumpster?
If the dumpster is placed on private property — your driveway or yard — a permit usually isn't required. If it needs to sit on a public street or sidewalk, you may need a temporary permit.
Who issues that permit?
Louisville Metro Public Works handles right-of-way permits and licenses for anything placed on a public street or sidewalk. We can point you to the right process if street placement is your only option.
Does the permit rule differ between an incorporated city and a Metro neighborhood?
The general private-property-versus-public-street rule holds everywhere in Jefferson County. Incorporated cities like Jeffersontown or St. Matthews and unincorporated communities like Fern Creek or Highview both fall under the same public-right-of-way permitting process for street placement.
Part 4
Service area
What towns do you deliver to?
Louisville itself, plus Jeffersontown, Middletown, St. Matthews, Shively, Lyndon, Anchorage, Fern Creek, Highview, Okolona, and Pleasure Ridge Park — all in Jefferson County.
Which areas get the fastest delivery?
Our yard sits in far eastern Jefferson County near Middletown, so eastern towns — Middletown, Anchorage, Lyndon, and St. Matthews — tend to see the quickest turnarounds. Western and southern towns like Shively, Okolona, and Pleasure Ridge Park are farther out and more often next-day.
Do you serve unincorporated Louisville Metro communities, or only incorporated cities?
Both. Fern Creek, Highview, Okolona, and Pleasure Ridge Park are unincorporated Metro communities without their own city hall, and we serve them the same as incorporated cities like Jeffersontown or Lyndon.
Do you deliver outside these towns?
Our published service area covers these 11 communities across Jefferson County. If you're just outside that footprint, call our dispatch team — they can tell you whether your address is reachable.
Part 5
What can and can't go in the dumpster
What can I put in a roll-off dumpster?
General household junk, construction and remodeling debris, roofing shingles, yard waste, and concrete or heavy material (in dumpsters rated for it) are all typically fine. Tell our dispatch team what you're disposing of so we can confirm and set the right size.
What's not allowed in the dumpster?
Hazardous materials, chemicals, paints, tires, batteries, and certain electronics generally can't go in a standard roll-off. If you're working on an older Old Louisville property, ask about lead paint or asbestos concerns before demolition — that's a job for a licensed contractor to test and handle, not something we assess on-site.
Can I mix different types of debris in one dumpster?
Light mixed household debris is usually fine in one container. Heavy material like concrete, dirt, or brick often needs its own dedicated load because of weight limits — ask us when you book if you're not sure.
