The 30 yard container in Louisville, KY
The 30 yard dumpster is about 22 ft long, 7.5 ft wide, and 6 ft high, holding roughly 170 to 190 bags of debris, or 4 to 5 tons. It's the same footprint as our 20 yard container but taller, which means significantly more volume without taking up more room on the property — a useful trade-off on lots where space is already tight.
This is the size that fits multi-room remodels where several rooms are being gutted at once, and full estate cleanouts where an entire house's worth of contents, furniture, and old materials needs to come out.
Capacity
What actually fits in a 30 yard container
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what stops most loads.
| Material | How much fits |
|---|---|
| Multi-room remodel (2-3 rooms gutted at once) | fits comfortably |
| Full estate cleanout, large house | fits comfortably |
| Older home gut renovation with plaster and lath | fits, weight permitting |
| Small commercial buildout debris | fits, size permitting |
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Choose the 30 yard for
- Multi-room remodels
- Full estate cleanouts
- Larger home renovations with mixed debris
- Older-home gut jobs with heavier material volumes
Pick a different size for
- Small single-room jobs (a 10 or 15 yard is more efficient)
- Tight driveways or narrow alleys where the extra height needs clearance
- Very heavy, dense loads like concrete-only debris — talk to us about weight first
Placing a 30 yard container on a Louisville-area property
The 30 yard is a frequent fit for estate cleanouts in Louisville's older housing stock, including the century-plus Victorian homes in Old Louisville — the largest collection of Victorian-era homes in the country. Clearing out one of these houses, or gutting one down to the studs, tends to produce more volume and a different material mix (older lath-and-plaster, older flooring, accumulated contents) than a typical modern remodel. Because many of these streets have narrow alleys and limited off-street parking, placement sometimes has to go on the public street rather than a driveway — in that case a temporary permit from Louisville Metro Public Works' Right of Way Permits and Licenses office may be required, and our dispatch team can help you plan around that before delivery day.

Answers
30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How is the 30 yard different from the 20 yard if they're the same length?
Both are about 22 ft long, but the 30 yard is 6 ft high versus 4.5 ft, which adds roughly 60 more bags of capacity and an extra ton of weight allowance in the same footprint on your property.
Is the 30 yard a good fit for an Old Louisville estate cleanout?
Often, yes — these houses tend to generate more volume than an average cleanout. The bigger consideration is usually placement: narrow alleys and limited off-street parking sometimes mean the container needs to go on the street rather than a driveway, which can require a temporary permit.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard dumpster in Louisville?
If it's placed on your private driveway or property, generally no permit is needed. If it has to go on a public street or sidewalk, you may need a temporary permit from Louisville Metro Public Works. Ask us when you book and we'll help you figure out which applies to your address.
How much weight can a 30 yard dumpster hold?
About 4 to 5 tons. That covers most multi-room remodels and estate cleanouts, but very dense material like concrete or brick can hit the weight limit before the container is visually full — let us know your material mix in advance.
